Information & Advocacy Unit

The GMCDP Information & Advocacy Unit was launched in 2004 and specialises in providing a customised information and signposting service to individuals and groups across Greater Manchester, on issues such as housing, benefits, rights, transport, and leisure activites.

Disabled people who live and/or work in the Greater Manchester area can telephone our information line between 9.30am and 4:30pm (Mon - Fri), where a member of our friendly and experienced team are waiting to answer your calls and respond to your emails.

Information Days

The Information and Advocacy Unit holds regular information days across the 10 districts of Greater Manchester where there is an opportunity to talk with GMCDP staff about the work we do and find out how we may be able to support you. We encourage disabled people in the Greater Manchester area to contact us with any suggestions about the sort of information days you would like to see in their area.

Consultancy Service

Our consultancy project is designed with service providers in mind. We can discuss everything from physical access for disabled people visiting your premises, to the accessibility of your publicity material. We also have an extensive network of external contacts, allowing us to refer you to other organisations where necessary.

Advocacy Service

One of the key issues for disabled people is choice. Advocacy is one way to make sure our choices are listened to. Advoacy can vary, from having someone with you to give you encouragement, help you work out what you want to say or speak on your behalf.

To assist with this, our advocacy service can provide a one-to-one advocacy support to disabled people in Greater Manchester. We are unable to offer legal advice at this stage but we will do our best to find someone who can if this is required.
